After watching Godzilla vs Kong in 2021, I thought it would've been great if Kongs axe would have been replaced with a spear. After all, an axe is primarily used as a tool, but spears are the actual weapon of choice if a people (or primate) of primeval times would go hunting big animals, as it offers a wider range of use, from the ability to stab at a relative safe distance to being thrown.
Furthermore, to contrast Godzillas apocalyptic portrait, I wanted to display Kong as a guardian figure, which in my eyes he has always been, even from the original movie in 1933 on. The idea was, after Godzilla would reset the world, so to say, Kong would be the one to make sure that a new earth can start to bloom up, which is symbolized in him holding a kind of rockish jar that contains water and a little "island" full of trees - the seed that will restart the circle of nature.
The color pallette for this illustration was taken from Ivan Aivazowsky's The Ninth Wave.
