Godzilla x Kong - Jötnar Saga

As I tried to cramp as much stuff as I could into this painting, without overloading the scenery, this work is a little testimony of love to some of my favorite visual things in this world, e.g for mystic arctic seas, surreal glacier scapes, magic crystaline icebergs carrying their turquoise shimmering lagoons, mighty mountain vistas, cloudy skies, viking voyaging and of course, everything just gets better with King Kong and Godzilla in it. Godzilla represents the vast power of the ocean, in whose presence even the mightiest of viking ships become mere tub toys. Kong represents the majesty and endurance of the mountains, mesmerizing to look at yet to be treated with respect and caution.

"We are customed to look upon the shackled form of a conquered monster. But there - there you could look at a thing monstrous and free."

Detail. Kong metaphorically represents the mountains (there's actually a species called mountain gorillas) and their unpredictable and majestic power. If you look close you can actually see an avalanche caused by his grip.

Detail view. Vikings clearly are a bit in trouble here.

Color concept and shape sketch. Kongs pose changed drastically during the painting process, as I realized a static pose came across quite boring.
